Cysts, also called epidermoid cysts, are small sacs of fluid attached to the base of the skin and are generally located just beneath the skin. Most cysts are harmless, but they can grow, become tender or infected, or drain intermittently.* Due to these problems, many patients would like their cysts removed.

Examination by your dermatologist can help narrow the diagnosis, but until the lesion is actually removed, confirmation cannot be given since it is located underneath the skin. Removal can be done in the office during a surgical appointment on almost any day after the diagnosis is made and is done through a simple surgical incision, but stitches are typically required.*

For confirmation and a review of the treatment options, please make an appointment.
